Drawings for a Sage Grouse Census
This series of drawings investigates relationships between sage grouse and humans in the American West. Three sets of information are juxtaposed to create drawings that challenge preconceptions of the West: the USGS Sagemap database (data describing sage grouse and the sage steppe), US Census data and literature. Together, these elements coalesce to encourage reflection, discussion and debate among audiences viewing the drawings.
The project was initiated at the Caldera Arts Center during an artist residency in February 2018. At its conclusion, the drawings were shared with the general public at open studios.
All drawings: Watercolor, gouache and ink on paper, 22" x 30"
